                        A meeting of the Berlin Board of Education was held in the Berlin High School library beginning at 6:00 p.m. Present for the meeting were Mitch Couture, Martha Laflamme, Nicole Plourde, Nathan Morin, John Moulis, Marion Y. Huntley, John Donaldson, Steve Michaud, Corinne Cascadden, Gary Bisson, Tim Forestall, Beverly Dupont, Dan Record, Jane Provencher, Ken Proulx, Cheryl Pinette, Mr. & Mrs. Tibbetts, Bridget Gagne, Craig Melanson, Ben Skoglund, and members of the press.
                        
MINUTES         On a motion by Nathan Morin, seconded by Nicole Plourde, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the May 2, 2007 meeting, public and nonpublic sessions. The motion passed unanimously, with Brian Leclerc abstaining.
        
WARRANTS                A motion was made by Brian Leclerc, seconded by Nathan Morin, to approve the warrants dated May 14, May 21, and May 28, 2007 for the amounts of $17,299.92, $156,768.30 and $300.00 respectively. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.

COMMENTS                None    

FEDERAL GRANTS  On a motion by Nicole Plourde, seconded by Brian Leclerc, the Board voted to authorize the Superintendent to accept monies for federal and state grants that occur during the 2007-2008 school year. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative. 

BREAD/MILK BIDS On a motion by Nicole Plourde, seconded by Nathan Morin, the Board voted to award the school bread bid for the 2007-2008 school year to Freihofer Sales Inc and the milk bid to HP Hood Co. On a roll call vote all members voted in the affirmative.

MANUAL APPROVAL        On a motion by Nathan Morin, seconded by Nicole Plourde, the Board vote to approve the Elementary Student/Parent and Staff Manuals. The motion passed unanimously.

HOUSE APPLICATION       After an explanation by Roland Pinette of the process he used for his recommendations, a motion was made by Brian Leclerc, seconded by Nicole Plourde to award the building trades’ project to Carl and Lisa Mercier for the 2007-2008 school year and to Michael Caron for the 2008-2009 school year as agreed by the two applicants. Discussion ensued. Mr. Pinette informed the Board that neither home would be built on speculation and that both applicants plan to live in these homes. They are both entire house projects with garages within the Berlin city limits. The motion passed unanimously. Mr. Pinette also presented the Board with invitations to attend the Open House scheduled on June 5, 2007 for this year’s project.

TITLE I         The Board reviewed an action plan by Title I which will have Hillside Elementary become a schoolwide program in 2007-2008. A motion was then made by Nicole Plourde, seconded by Brian Leclerc to allow 3 participants to attend the Title I National Conference in Nashville Tennessee, in January 2008 at no cost to the district. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.

POLICIES                On a motion by Brian Leclerc, seconded by Nicole Plourde, the Board voted to approve Policies ACE-GBA-IF and IHCD. The motion passed unanimously.

SUPER REPORT    The Superintendent reported on the PSNH recognition plaques awarded to the BHS and BJHS/Hillside Principals.

                        The Superintendent recommended that the Board delay action on setting up a Dummer Tuition Agreement to allow time to review language options. The AREA Agreement will continue for the 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 school years. Dummer would like to enter into a tuition agreement. The Superintendent then suggested scheduling a June AREA meeting with Dummer and placeCityMilan. The June 20, 2007 meeting was suggested.

                        Elementary enrollment figures were discussed.
        
COMMENTS                None.

NEW BUSINESS    Brian Leclerc extended congratulations to Craig Melanson on his ability to get the spring sports season going given the weather conditions.

                        Mitch Couture reported on the previous night’s meeting with the Gorham, Randolph, Shelburne School Cooperative. They are working on taking small steps such as combining music, theatre, bands and clubs. He requested the administration investigate these options.
                        
NON PUBLIC              On a motion by Nathan Morin, seconded by Nicole Plourde, the Board voted to go in to nonpublic session at 6:30 p.m. in accordance with RSA 91-A3II(a),(b), (c). On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative. Martha Laflamme joined the meeting at 6:50 p.m.

                        On a motion by Martha Laflamme, seconded by Brian Leclerc, the Board voted to come out of nonpublic session at 8:55 p.m. On a roll call vote, the motion passed unanimously. One additional vote was taken in nonpublic session.

STAFFING                On a motion by Brian Leclerc, seconded by Nathan Morin, the Board voted to accept the following staffing changes and to renominate the present school personnel for the 2007-2008 school year as per the list presented to them.

                        Theodore Pacheco – Individual Aide - BJHS
                        Nancy Sheehan – Individual Aide - Hillside

                        All nominations are contingent on the person passing a criminal record check.

ADJOURN         On a motion by Brian Leclerc, seconded by Nathan Morin, the Board voted to adjourn it’s meeting at 8:56 p.m. The motion passed unanimously.
